Marquette Redmen Basketball Falls to Gaylord 60-46, Eliminated from District Playoffs
- Updated: March 7, 2018

Gaylord, MI – March 7, 2018 – The Marquette Redmen basketball ended their season with a 60-46 loss to the Gaylord Blue Devils on Wednesday evening in a game that was broadcast live on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9 and online at foxsportsmarquette.com. The Redmen, who had beaten the Alpena Wildcats 64-57 on the same court two days earlier, bowed out in the district semi-final after the loss to Gaylord.
The Gaylord Blue Devils scored the game’s first points off of two free throws after drawing a foul just over 10 seconds after the opening tip. The Redmen tied the game not long after on a pair of free throws of their own, and the teams traded baskets from that point on. After the first quarter, it was Gaylord that held a 21-15 lead, although to say they were noticeably better than Marquette would be incorrect. The Redmen were able to reduce their deficit by one point in the second quarter, and at halftime, Gaylord led Marquette 30-25.
The Blue Devils wasted no time after the resumption of play, going on a 5-0 run to begin the second half. Gaylord looked the better team in the third quarter, taking a 43-36 lead into the final frame. It quickly became apparent that the Redmen would not be able to overcome the Blue Devil lead, and the final score was 60-46 in favor of Gaylord.
With the loss, the Marquette Redmen end a strong 2017-18 season. The next Redmen action on Fox Sports Marquette will not be until August, when the Marquette football team takes the field for the 2018-19 campaign. Be sure to join us in the fall for Redmen football on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9 and online at foxsportsmarquette.com.
