Marquette, MIFriday, January 11, 2019 – On a chilly Friday night in Marquette, the Marquette Redmen Boys Basketball team hosted the Menominee Maroons in a Great Northern Conference matchup. Jacob Ogea had all of the action covered on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9.

1st Half: Both teams began the game a bit sluggish with missed shots and turnovers. The action was fast paced however, as the teams traded baskets and the Redmen took an early 7-6 lead. Menominee quickly showed their commitment to the three-point-shot offensively. The Redmen would go on a quick five point run to take a 12-6 lead off of turnovers from the Maroons. Both teams were playing high tempo on offense, as both teams would trade baskets on transition looks. The Maroons would knock down a three pointer to cut the lead in half, as they trailed 14-11. The two squads would trade baskets in the final minute of the quarter, and the Marquette Redmen would take a 16-13 lead into the second quarter.

End of 1st: Marquette Redmen 16, Menominee Maroons 13

The start of the second quarter was action-packed, as Menominee would cut the lead to just one point, but the Redmen responded quickly with a three pointer to take a four point lead. The Maroons were struggling to take care of the ball on offense, as Marquette was hounding them with full court pressure. Two free throws and a layup would put the Redmen up by nine points with five minutes remaining in the second quarter. Marquette was starting to find a groove on offense, and they were making it difficult for Menominee to execute in the half court. Both teams would trade three-point baskets, and the Redmen lead was now 27-18. The scoring would slow down in the last few minutes of the half, as both teams were playing good defense. The Redmen would score at the buzzer on a put-back layup, and Marquette would take a strong second quarter and 34-23 lead into the halftime locker room.
