Marquette loses in a nail bitter against Ishpeming(62-65)

Marquette, MI– December 21, 2022- Marquette would face off against Ishpeming for the first time in 12 years live on Foxsports 105.1-99.9!

Q1:Marquette would win the tip but would turn the ball over. Ishpeming would get the ball but would turn the ball over as well. Cora Anderson would go to the line and hit both free throws. Ishpeming would turn the ball over again. Meghan Macphee would score off the in bounds play for Marquette. Jenna Maki would get down the court and score the first points for Ishpeming. Macphee would score again in transition for the Redettes. Macphee would get fouled on the shot, would go to the line and would go 1 for 2 from the line. Mya Hemmer would get fouled on her shot and would conver the and-1. Kyley Elmblad would cut to the basket and would make an easy shot. Ishpeming would push the pace as they get a quick 3 off and would drain it. Macphee would make an easy basket in transition. Cora Anderson would make the bucket as she was fouled and would make the free throw. Lilly Swanson would make an easy layup for Ishpeming. Bella Lorens would get fouled to end the quarter and would go 1 for 3.

Q2: Ishpeming would get the ball to start the quarter. Maki would drain the mid range shot to start the quarter. Ishpeming would get a big steal but would step out of bounds. Maki would drain the 3 and put Ishpeming down by 1. Maki would make another 3 to take the lead. Ishpeming’s defense would continue to cause turn overs. A long 3 from Ishpeming would give Marquette the ball. Ishpemings defense would cause a jump ball but Marquette would keep the ball. Ishpeming would get the ball back and Jenessa Eagle would hit a big 3. Macphee would get to the line and would go 0 for 2 from the line, as Marquette would continue their drought in the second. Julian Ott would stop the drought for Marquette. Ishpeming would go to the line and would go 2 for 2 from line. Ott would score the second time for Marquette this quarter. Hemmer would score an easy layup in transition to end the quarter.

Q3:Ishpeming would get the ball to start the half. Ishpeming would miss their first shot. Marquette would turn the ball over on their first possession. Marquette would take the ball back and get three offensive rebounds but wouldn’t make a shot. The Redettes would get fouled of the in bounds. Hemmer would be the first scorer of the quarter. Ott would get the first points on the board for Marquette this half. Hemmer wold get fouled on the shot and would go 1 for 2 from the line. She would get her own rebound off the shot and would make the second chance points. Macphee would get an easy basket as she would make it a 1 point deficit for Marquette. Maki would get the ball and make the pull up jumper. Macphee would get to line and she would go 2 for 2 from the line. Ott would get easy points in transition as the Redettes would take the lead back. Macphee would get easy points in the post. Maki would get fouled and would go to the line. She would go 2 for 2 from the line. Marquette would hold the ball for the last shot and would not make the shot.

Q4: Marquette would get the ball to start the quarter. Bella Lorens would make a long 2 for Marquette to start the quarter. Macphee would score a turn around jump shot in the post. Eagle would make a big 3 to cut the deficit to 4. A jump ball would give the ball back to Ishpeming. Ishpeming would turn the ball over and would continue to run the full court press as Maki would score off a Marquette turn over. Maki would get another steal and would score to tie the game. Macphee would stop the bleeding for Marquette as the Redettes would take back the lead. Maki would get the steal and fouled on the lay up. She would go 2 for 2 from the line and would tie the game back up. Maki would get a steal and Swanson would drain a 3 to take the lead back. Macphee would make a great move and would score in the post. Macphee would score to take the lead for Marquette. Macphee would score again after beating the press. Cora Anderson would score for Marquette to make the lead even bigger for the Redettes. Swanson would make big 3 to cut the deficit by 2 with a minute left. Swanson would get fouled and would go to the line for a chance to tie the game but she would miss the free throw. Macphee would go to the line and would go 1 for 2 from the line. Maki would make the biggest shot of the night as she got fouled and would got to the line for the and-1 and would drain it at the line. That would tie the game up for Ishpeming.

OT: Marquette would win the tip and Ott would score immediately. Hemmer would go to the line and would go 1 for 2 from the line. Now Swanson would go to the line and she would go 2 for 2 from the line. That would give Ishpeming the lead. Siena Lingle would make a layup for Marquette to take back the lead. Eagle would get the steal and the score. Lingle would score the second the time in overtime. Lorens would go to the line and would go 0 for 1 from the line. Hemmer would get the rebound off the miss shot and made the shot to take the lead for Ishpeming. Swanson would go to the line and would go 1 for 2 from the line. Eagle would then go to the line and would go 1 for 2 from the line. Marquette would miss their last shot to tie the game.
