Bloomfield Hills, MI – November 20th 2021 – The Marquette Redmen continued their road trip today, facing off against the Lake Orion Dragons at the Detroit Skating Club Arena.
Anna Byczek got the start in net this afternoon against the Lake Orion Dragons. Opening the game she made some key saves to keep the Dragons out of the net. After back and forth play throughout the entire 1st period, Redmen Forward Nash Riipi gave his team the lead with 3 minutes remaining, unassisted. The physicality would pick up soon after Riipi lit the lamp.Later in the period, a key Marquette giveaway would lead to a Dragon goal. Heading into the 2nd period, it was tied 1-1.

After a very late penalty in the 1st period, the Dragons were able to come out of the locker room with a 5 on 4 advantage, but it would not matter. Marquette Defenseman Colin Nemacheck would maneuver his way around a Dragon defender to score a short handed goal. The Redmen led 2-1 after just 1 minute of play in the 2nd period. As the period progressed, Lake Orion had several scoring opportunities, but Anna Byczek did an excellent job of keeping the puck out of the net, and also got some insurance mid way through the period. Marquette Forward Kody Moyer was able to pick pocket a Dragon defender and score his first career goal, the Redmen led 3-1 with just under 8 minutes to play.Just a few minutes later the Redmen put another on the board as Forward Jake Garrow hit top shelf to take a 4-1 lead. The Dragons kept fighting later in the 2nd period as they cut the deficit to 2, but Marquette would continue to dominate. Redmen Defensemen Brayden Grange gave his team the 5-2 lead from Garrow, and seconds later assisted to Forward Theo Adams for the 6-2 lead heading into the 3rd period.
