Marquette’s Varsity Soccer Team Achieves Victory Against Opponent Boyne City 3-1

Marquette, Mi– August 23rd, 2022- The Marquette Redmen boys varsity soccer team hosted Boyne City on Tuesday, August 23 at the Kaufman Sports Complex.

Senior Captain Ezra Pickard started off by scoring in the first half thanks to senior Max Dawson and sophomore Kaleb Chipelewski’s assists. Sophomore goaltender Edan Hautamaki made four saves in the first half for a 1-0 lead. Chipelewski then found the net off a Pickard assist bring them up two goals. Pickard notched his second goal of the night off a Dawson assist for the 3-0 lead.

Boyne City was able to get on the board with a goal at with 15 minutes left in the game. From there on Hautamaki did not allow any more goals in, preserving the win. No points were scored by Boyne City despite the nine shots Hautamaki had to face in the second half. Marquette’s Coach Dan Salmon was impressed by the efforts on both sides “Boyne City pushed us hard and made us really battle for the win tonight. We lost some momentum in the first half but quickly regained it in the second half. A very good team effort tonight.”

This Saturday, Marquette will be traveling to Alpena for a tournament with a current score of 3-2 for the season.
