Marquette, MI – November 17th, 2025 – This past weekend, the Northern Michigan Wildcats hosted Wayne State University on senior night. The Wildcats aimed to carry momentum from defeating Davenport (47-45) in four overtimes. Wayne State sought its first win of the year.
It didn’t take long for the Wildcats to reach the endzone, as the reigning GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week, Noah Dobert, rushed for a 56-yard touchdown, putting his team up 7-0. On the next drive Dobert would find another crease, this time from 52 yards (14-0). Next, it was Noah Hoffman’s turn to find the endzone from three yards out to take a 21-0 lead. The Warriors would add their only points in the first half from a kick by Avery Burch from 44 yards, making it 21-3 at halftime.
To start the second half, Northern would only need one play to find the endzone. Noah Dobert would find it from 64 yards out to complete his hat trick. Less than three minutes later, the Wildcats would score again. Guess who? Noah Dobert’s longest run of the day, 72 yards, put the Cats up 35-3. Later in the third quarter, Northern would go to the air as Trevor Theuerkauf found Sabastian Boyea for a 22-yard passing TD (42-3). Finally, to put on the finishing touches, Michael Karlen added a 41-yard field goal. Wayne State would find the endzone and add the two point conversion (45 – 11), but it’s all they could do. This Wildcat victory ended the three-year, home field winless streak.
During this outstanding performance, the Wildcats shattered many records, beginning with breaking the single-season rushing record as a team (set back in 2018) with 3,123 yards. The historic outing didn’t just set a new team rushing mark, it also saw Noah Dobert (406 yards) surpass Mark Bossuah’s 317-yard effort from 2007. Dobert now owns the program’s top totals for total rushing yards (1,656) and rushing touchdowns (15), overtaking benchmarks previously held by Jake Mayon’s stellar 2018 season.
The Wildcats also sweep the GLIAC awards this week with Noah Dobert earning Offensive player of the Week for the third time, Jerimiah Gossett earning Defensive Player of the Week, and Michael Karlen claiming Special Teams Player of the Week. This marks a historic moment for NMU as the program secured all three major conference honors, simultaneously, for the first time.
