Marquette, MI – November 12th, 2025 – The Ishpeming Hematites hosted the Munising Mustangs this past Thursday for the District 100 Championship. The two teams met twice during the regular season, with the Hematites winning both times: at the Munising Invite by scores of 25-23 and 26-24, and again on September 17 in Munising, where the Hematites prevailed 3-0. To advance to Regional action, Ishpeming needed to defeat Munising for a third time. The Hematites were led by Mya Hemmer (Baylor University commit).
After getting out to an early lead, the Hematites would drop the first set to the Mustangs (25-27). The second set would be another back-and-forth battle with the Hematites taking set two (25-23). Tied at one apiece, Ishpeming carried its momentum into set three, winning with ease (25-14). After that, the Hematites were too much for the Mustangs to handle. Ishpeming claimed the final set (25-17), claiming the District Championship.
Last night, Ishpeming made the trip to North Dickinson to take on the Norway Knights in a Regional Semifinal matchup. The two teams would clash for the first time this season. Hematites came ready to go from the jump, claiming set one (25-11). This set the tone for the rest of the night, with Ishpeming only needed three sets to get the job done (25-12, 25-15).
This now sets up a Regional Championship match between the Ishpeming Hematites (23-5-2) and Crystal Falls Forest Park (40-1). The only loss in Forest Park’s record came in their first tournament of the year, and they have not lost a match since August 23rd. The two teams met one time during the Escanaba Elks Invite, which Forest Park won (27-25, 25-13). The match will be tomorrow (11/13/25) at L’Anse High School, beginning at 7:00 p.m. The winner will receive the Region 25 Championship trophy and advance to the quarterfinals to play next Tuesday at Manistique High School.
