Marquette, MI – July 7th, 2026 – Today on the Big Local Sports Show, we were joined by Marquette Sentinels head football coach and boys track & field coach Eric Mason, who shared the journey that has shaped him into one of the top coaches in the Upper Peninsula.
During the first segment, we discussed Mason’s first season leading the Marquette boys track & field program. He reflected on how the opportunity came about, the challenges that came with taking over the program, and the dedicated coaching staff and support system that helped make the transition a successful one.
The conversation then shifted to the Marquette football program, where Mason talked about the Sentinels’ sustained success, the culture that has been built within the program, and how Marquette continues to develop athletes who go on to compete at the collegiate level.
In the second segment, Mason took listeners through his personal coaching journey, sharing how his passion for football developed, the path that led him into coaching, and the mentors who played a significant role in shaping his philosophy. He also spoke about the lasting impact those coaches had on him and how he hopes to provide that same guidance and mentorship to the next generation of athletes and coaches on his own staff.

During the show, we’ll discuss Dow’s journey as both a player and coach, what led him to pursue coaching, and his vision for the future of Gwinn boys basketball as he begins this exciting new chapter leading the varsity program.
