Marquette, MI – February 6, 2026 – The Marquette High School Hockey team stayed home this week at Lakeview Ice Rink to take on the Calumet Copper Kings. Coming off a strong three-goal win over Negaunee last week, the Sentinels hit the ice hungry to keep that momentum rolling. Fans tuned in live on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 & 99.9, where Joe Gaffaney and Coach Larry Carey brought every moment of the action to life.
First Period
Both teams came out flying with aggressive energy right from the opening faceoff. Goaltenders Parker Nevenhoven, Marquette, and Juckery, Calumet, were locked in early, turning away shot after shot. Neither side was willing to give an inch, and despite quality chances, the goalies stood tall to keep the game scoreless through the first.
Score:
Marquette 0 – 0 Calumet
Second Period
The intensity only picked up in the second. With five minutes left in the period, the scoreboard still hadn’t budged. Marquette High School Hockey applied constant pressure in the Copper Kings’ zone, creating opportunities and forcing Calumet to defend hard, but the puck just wouldn’t find the back of the net.
Score:
Marquette 0 – 0 Calumet
Third Period
The breakthrough finally came in the third. Sandstrom sent the puck out of the zone, setting up Brody Sheldon, who jumped into the play and fired a shot on net to break the deadlock and ignite the crowd.
With momentum fully on their side, the Sentinels weren’t done. Sandstrom picked up the puck from Spagnola and shot like a cannon out of the Marquette zone and shot past the goalie to make it a two-goal game. Not long after, Skylar Blackburn buried one into the open net with no hesitation, assisted by Caleb Aho, sealing the victory for Marquette tonight.
Final Score:
Marquette 3 – 0 Calumet
