Hartland, MI – January 15, 2025 – Broadcast live from Hartland Sports Center Ice Arena, Marquette High School Hockey hit the road tonight to take on the Hartland Eagles, looking to kick off a three-game win streak. With Joe Gaffaney and Coach Larry Carey on the call, fans tuned in on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 & 99.9 for every moment of this hard-fought matchup.
First Period
Marquette came out of the gate ready to throw themselves into the game, bringing high energy and physical play from the opening face-off. Lively shifts and strong puck movement set the tone early, while Parker Nevenhoven stood tall in net, making several key saves to keep the game scoreless.
Hartland, an upperclassmen-heavy team, applied steady pressure in the Marquette zone, but Nevenhoven stayed locked in, tracking the puck and refusing to break. Marquette earned the first power play midway through the period, but despite good looks, neither team was able to capitalize.
Score:
Marquette 0 – 0 Hartland
Second Period
The intensity only ramped up in the second. A two-on-one chance for Hartland resulted in the puck finding the back of the Marquette net, leaving Nevenhoven with little chance to stop it. From there, the game settled into a heavy-hitting, back-and-forth rhythm as both teams dug in and battled hard along the boards.
Despite strong defensive efforts and continued pressure from Marquette High School Hockey, no additional goals were scored in the period.
Score:
Marquette 0 – 1 Hartland
Third Period
With just a one-goal difference, the final period was wide open. Over halfway through the period, Marquette finally broke through, sinking a puck into the Eagles’ net to tie the game and ignite the crowd. With seven minutes remaining, it truly felt like anyone’s game, and fans were on the edge of their seats.
Hartland answered late, slipping another goal past Nevenhoven with just two minutes left on the clock. Still, the Marquette Sentinels refused to back down, battling hard until the final buzzer and pushing for a last-second chance to tie it up. Unfortunately, the comeback fell just short.
Final Score:
Marquette 1 – 2 Hartland
