Marquette, MI – January 13th, 2026 – Dawn Evans grew up playing sports in Negaunee and, in 2020, stepped into the role of Booster Club president. The Booster Club meets on the second Monday of each month, and everyone is welcome to attend, even those without children currently participating in sports. During Negaunee’s memorable football run to Ford Field in 2022, Dawn played a major role in helping raise $40,000 to offset travel costs for the team. Each June, she also oversees the process of reviewing requests from individual teams for equipment and other needs, determining what the Booster Club is able to financially support. Dawn explained how community members can get involved with the Booster Club or make a donation. She also shared that at tonight’s girls basketball game, Miners-themed license plates will be available for purchase.
Mark Evans joined the show for the second segment. Mark is a longtime play-by-play announcer for Negaunee football and a familiar voice in the local sports scene. His passion for broadcasting began at just five years old when he turned on the radio and heard Bob Miller and Phil Mendel calling a college hockey game, an experience that instantly hooked him. Mark got his first opportunity to do play-by-play at age 16 while still in high school. Over the years, he has called games for Negaunee, Northern Michigan University, and even the USA National Hockey Team. More recently, Mark has been serving as the public address announcer for Negaunee basketball games. He also shared that he is currently writing a book titled 40 Years in a Padded Room, highlighting the most memorable moments from his broadcasting career.
