Marquette, MI – December 13, 2025 — After a dominant mercy-rule win over the Lake Orion Dragons last night, The Marquette High School Hockey Sentinels returned to Lakeview Arena Saturday afternoon ready to prove it wasn’t a fluke. The Sentinels hit the ice locked in for round two, and from the opening face off, it was clear they were in control once again. Fans tuned in live on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 & 99.9, where Joe Gaffaney and Coach Larry Carey delivered every moment of the action straight from the rink!
First Period
Marquette wasted no time getting on the board with a fast, aggressive start. The Sentinels struck the back of the Lake Orion Dragons net first and followed it up quickly with another goal from Kolton Staid, as he sunk a puck into the net with an assist from Evan Mattila, pushing early momentum firmly in Marquette’s favor. The pressure never let up. Outshooting Lake Orion 19–2, Marquette High School Hockey controlled possession over the puck and a fast pace, capitalizing on their chances. Jack Pond picked up a loose puck and buried it, thanks to strong net-front pressure from Seth Sandstrom and the Sentinels added two more goals before the period ended to build a commanding lead.
Score:
Marquette 5 – 0 Lake Orion
Second Period
Marquette kept their foot on the gas in the second. Jack Pond struck again, burying his second goal of the game and continuing to take full advantage of his opportunities. The Sentinels followed that up with two more goals one finished by Riley Nevenhoven followed by another goal off a rebound, as the Marquette offense continued to roll.
With just over three minutes left in the period, Marquette hit the magic number eight, putting the mercy-rule win firmly in sight. Still, both the Dragons and the Sentinels played the full sixty minutes with purpose and discipline. Jameson Sandstrom added another goal late in the period, sealing the mercy win outcome for the Marquette Sentinels as the period clock wound down.
Final Score
Marquette 9 – 0 Lake Orion
