Debut Win For Billy Lindquist in Dramatic Fashion

Marquette, MI – November 10th, 2025 – Billy Lindquist made a memorable debut as Northern Michigan’s interim head football coach. He led the Wildcats to a thrilling 47-45 victory over Davenport in four overtimes. Earlier in the season, Northern Michigan hosted Davenport and fell 35-16. This win marked an impressive turnaround.

The Wildcats struck early as Noah Dobert broke free for a 53-yard touchdown run, giving Northern Michigan a quick 7-0 lead. Davenport’s Cephis Harris answered with a score of his own, tying the game at seven. That score held through the first quarter. Dobert found the end zone again from 20 yards out to put the Wildcats back in front, but the Panthers responded to tie it once more. Just before halftime, Trevor Theuerkauf scrambled for a one-yard rushing touchdown, putting Northern ahead 21-14.

The third quarter was very quiet. Noah Hofmann extended the Wildcat lead (28-14) with a one-yard run. Davenport wouldn’t go out easily. They put together their best quarter of the day, putting up 14 points to tie the game. The Wildcats had no answer, so the game would require overtime to determine a winner.

The Wildcats opened overtime with the ball, and Noah Dobert secured his hat trick to put Northern Michigan up 35-28. The Panthers answered to force a second overtime, then scored and converted for two. Dobert responded with his fourth touchdown and added the conversion to tie it at 43. In the third OT, teams alternated two-point tries. Theuerkauf ran it in, but the Panthers matched again, pushing it to a fourth overtime. The Panthers came up short on their attempt, and Northern turned to Dobert once more. He powered into the end zone to seal a 47-45 Wildcat victory. Following Dobert’s 243 yards on the ground, along with four touchdowns, he earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week.

Following the Wildcats’ big win, they will return home for their final game of the season, this Saturday, when they host Wayne State. Wayne State will enter the contest winless on the season. The Wildcats will look to win their first home game since September 24, 2022, when they defeated Post University (42-14). Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. at the Superior Dome.
