It was a rough start for the young Miners. Iron Mountain would plate four runs in the top of the first inning, giving Negaunee quite a hole to have to dig themselves out of. Negaunee would respond as if they were varsity veterans. They would answer back with four runs themselves to tie this game back up in the bottom of the first. The Miners would have a great second inning defensively as they would put down the first three batters of the Mountaineers. The Miners would have just as big of an inning offensively driving across four more runs and taking a four run lead. Iron Mountain would answer back with a run of their own to cut into Negaunee’s lead. The Miners would extend their lead to five as we headed to the halfway point of this game.

Iron Mountain, to their credit, would keep fighting in this one. Getting another run across to cut into the deficit. Not much would happen for Negaunee as they would go one, two, three, in the bottom half of the fourth inning. Once again, the Mountaineers would keep chipping away at the Miner’s lead by adding two more runs making this a 10-8 ball game. Negaunee would bat around in the bottom of the fifth and push across four runs, extending their lead to six making the score 14-8. Iron Mountain deserves a lot of praise because they would keep fighting and getting themselves two more runs in the sixth inning. The Miners would be shutout in the sixth but they would force the Mountaineers to go one, two, three in the top of the seventh and finish this with a 14-10 victory.
