Marquette, MI – September 16th, 2025 – This past weekend, Northern Michigan hosted Division I Saint Thomas. The Wildcats have fought hard in their first two games but unfortunately fell short, losing 44-37 to Minnesota State Moorhead and 23-18 against Northwood. Despite these challenges, Northern Michigan University is determined to secure its first win in over two seasons and end the losing streak.
The Tommies kicked off the action midway through the first quarter when Andy Peters connected with Eli Paulson for a 13-yard touchdown pass. This capped off a 10-play, 65-yard drive, giving St. Thomas a 6-0 lead. For the remainder of the first half, both defenses performed, keeping the score at 6-0 as they headed into halftime.
As the second half began, the Wildcats mounted an impressive eight-play, 70-yard drive that concluded with a five-yard rushing touchdown by Jahi Wood. They reclaimed the lead with 4:45 remaining in the third quarter, following an extra point by Michael Karlen, bringing the score to 7-6. It would remain the same score heading into the final quarter with a chance to break the streak.
With six minutes left in the game, Andy Peters connected with Marc Coy for a 24-yard touchdown pass due to a blown coverage by NMU. This capped off a five-play, 78-yard drive, allowing the Tommies to retake the lead, 14-7. On the Wildcats’ next possession, quarterback Duke Shovald was injured, forcing Austin Ridl to step in for a critical third-down play. Unfortunately, the Wildcats were unsuccessful, resulting in a punt. The Tommies would have a similar result to their previous drive when Andy Peters aired it out to Patrick Wagner for a seven-yard touchdown, ultimately sealing the game 20-7.
Northern Michigan will host Davenport University for their Homecoming football game this week. The kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Head to the Superior Dome this weekend to cheer on your Wildcats!
