Marquette, MI – December 8, 2023 – Today, our beloved Marquette High School Hockey Team is on their home turf in the Lake View Arena facing off against the Sault Saint Marie Blue Devils. John Thomsen and Coach Larry brought the action to life on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 & 99.9, delivering live updates straight from the stadium.
Period 1:
The first period started with an electrifying moment as Tucker Welch scored a goal in less than 30 seconds into the game, setting the tone for Marquette. The game unfolded in a back-and-forth fashion, with Marquette making numerous shots but facing a resilient Sault goalie. Unfortunately, the period took a worrisome turn when Caleb Beerman got checked from behind, resulting in a huge penalty for the Sault. Despite this setback, Marquette maintained a 1-0 lead.
Period 2:
The second period saw the Sault breaking through Marquette’s defense, tying the game at 1-1. The match evolved into a true tug of war, with Marquette taking shot after shot but struggling to break through the Sault’s goaltender.
Period 3:
The third period intensified as both teams had missed opportunities, and the Sault’s goalie continued to thwart Marquette’s shots. The tension finally broke when Seth Sandstrum executed a beautiful move, bringing the score to 2-1 and sending Marquette fans into a cheering frenzy. The game remained tight, with CJ Carter delivering a good shot that narrowly missed the goal. Despite numerous close calls on both sides, Marquette clinched the victory with a solid one-goal lead.
