Marquette, MI – September 15th, 2025 – This weekend featured a range of storylines across the gridiron as teams looked to build on their momentum. Despite their efforts, all of the mediaBrew teams fell short this week. Let’s take a glimpse at each team’s performance.
Beginning with the Hematites, who were looking to get their name in the win column for the first time this season. They hosted the Gogebic Miners. Both teams battled from the start, with the teams tied at sixteen at the half. The second half saw the Miners run away with it, coming away with a 38-16 win. Hematites, Grady Gauthier continues to pound the rock, carrying the ball forty times for 208 yards and two touchdowns in the loss.
Heading to Miners Stadium for Negaunee vs Calumet. Copper Kings struck first with Ben Anderson putting them on the scoreboard. In the next possession, the Copper Kings would force Kyle Waterman into throwing a pick-six. Then we saw Evan DellAngelo score his third straight special teams touchdown, taking a punt return back to the endzone, cutting the deficit to seven at the half. However, in the second half every time the Miners scored, the Copper Kings had an answer, ultimately giving head coach Jeff Niemi and the Miners their first loss, 33-18.
Finally, the Marquette Sentinels traveled downstate to meet Gaylord. Ford Richardson got the scoring going through the air, putting the Sentinels up 7-0. Gaylord would then answer back, tying the game at seven. Richardson would then use his legs at the end of the half, putting the Sentinels up 14-7 at the half. In the second half, it was very similar to the first, in which the game would need overtime to figure out a winner. With a nail-biting end, Richardson would scramble left in a QB-designed run and be stopped at the one-yard line on a two-point conversion to win the game, resulting in a 28-27 loss, dropping Marquette to 1-2.
