Marquette Redmen Fall to Sault Blue Devils 4-2
- Updated: December 29, 2017

Marquette, MI – December 29, 2017 – The Marquette Redmen fell to the Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils 4-2 in Marquette on Friday evening, in a game that was broadcast live on 103.3 WFXD and online at wfxd.com. The Redmen, having lost their previous three games, dropped their fourth straight, and began the Marquette Showcase with a loss.
The Marquette Redmen began the first period with a burst of offense, as Joey Phillips scored the opening goal just 52 seconds after the puck drop. The Blue Devils were unfazed, however, and played toe-to-to with the Redmen for the remainder of the period. The Sault tied the score with about 5:00 left in the opening stanza. After that, the score did not shift, and the period ended tied 1-1.
The trend of even play continued in the second period, as neither team was able to find an edge in the opening few minutes of play. The Blue Devils were finally able to put the puck in the net and make it 2-1, and before the period was out, the Sault added another marker to take a 3-1 lead into the third period.

Marquette was unable to overcome the deficit in the third period, despite a good offensive effort. The Sault was able to defend well against almost every Redmen rush, save for one midway through the period on which Aydin Frost cut the difference to one goal. That lead didn’t last, however, as the Blue Devils scored just over two minutes later and restored their lead to two. The remainder of the game passed without incident, and the final scoreline was 4-2 in favor of the Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils.
The Marquette Redmen are back in action on Saturday, December 30, in their second game of the Marquette Showcase. The puck will drop on that game at 3:00, and you can listen live on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9 or online at foxsportsmarquette.com.
