GWINN, MI – March 13, 2021 – The Gwinn Modeltowners JV Boys Basketball team took their home court in E.L. Miller Gymnasium against the visiting Ishpeming Hematites. Ishpeming raced out to a 17-3 after one quarter of play, and rolled to a 55-41 win. Travis Nelson had the call live from Gwinn High School streaming live on foxsportsmarquette.com
1st Half:
Both teams struggled to get going early on offense, but a Gwinn 3-pointer by Conner Dupras gave the Modeltowners an early edge. The Hematites started to heat up offensively and went on a run behind the scoring of Preston Gauthier and Hayden Hares. Ishpeming scored the final 17 points of the first quarter, and took a 17-3 lead.
End of 1st: Ishpeming Hematites 17, Gwinn Modeltowners 3
Gwinn started to get its offense going in the second quarter, but Ishpeming kept up the pace. Dupras, Josh Harnick and Averyan McGuire led the charge for the Modeltowners, but they were outscored 16-12 in the second. The Modeltowners’ turnover issues led to multiple Ishpeming fast break layups, and Gwinn trailed 33-15 at halftime.
