MANISTIQUE, MI – March 16, 2021 – The Gwinn Modeltowners JV Boys Basketball team traveled to Manistique to battle the JV Emeralds on Tuesday night! It was a close game in the first half, but the Emeralds pulled away from Gwinn for the 55-37 victory. Travis Nelson and Gregg Nelson had the call live from Manistique High School streaming live on foxsportsmarquette.com
1st Half:
Gwinn started out the game with hot shooting, especially from Logan Soyring and Averyan McGuire. Manistique trailed early on, but the play of Bryce Blixt and #24 who wasn’t on the roster were making plays for the Emeralds. Gwinn was up 11-4 after one quarter, but the Emeralds battled back to only trail by one.
End of 1st: Gwinn Modeltowners 11, Manistique Emeralds 10
The second quarter started off well for Manistique, and they jumped to a lead with the guard play of Blixt and Wyatt Demers. The Modeltowners piled up the turnovers, and Manistique took advantage of them with transition layups. Despite a rough second quarter, Gwinn only trailed by four heading into the halftime locker room.
Halftime: Manistique Emeralds 22, Gwinn Modeltowners 18
2nd Half:
The game was looking to get away from Gwinn in the third quarter, as Manistique built a nine-point lead. The trio of Soyring, McGuire and Conner Dupras stepped up big for the Modeltowners, as they cut the deficit down to 30-28 in the waning minutes of the third. The Emeralds however scored the final four points of the quarter, and led 34-28.

Gwinn plays their next game against the West Iron County Wykons
End of 3rd: Manistique Emeralds 34, Gwinn Modeltowners 28
After a tightly-contested first three quarters, the fourth was a different story. Manistique was doing anything it wanted offensively, including second chance baskets from Demers and Kyle Flodin. Demers scored in double digits alone in the fourth, and Blixt was everywhere defensively for Manistique. 34 of Gwinn’s 37 points came from either Soyring, McGuire or Dupras, with Josh Harnick adding three points in the final minute of the game. The Emeralds emerged victorious after the visiting Gwinn Modeltowners, 55-37.
