Gwinn Modeltowners Girls Basketball Loses to Ishpeming on Senior Night 48-28
- Updated: March 17, 2021

The Gwinn Modeltowners hosted Ishpeming tonight at GHS
GWINN, MI – March 17, 2021 – The Gwinn Modeltowners Girls Basketball team was back at home on Wednesday night where they faced the visiting Ishpeming Hematites on Senior Night. It wasn’t a game to remember for the Modeltowners, as they fell to the Hematites 48-28. Travis Nelson had the call live from Gwinn High School streaming live on foxsportsmarquette.com
1st Half:
Gwinn got off to a poor start with its recurring turnover issues popping up again. Ishpeming came out in full court pressure, and it used to jump out to an early lead. Unfortunately for Gwinn, they were never able to get back into the game, and the Hematites controlled the entirety of the game. Tianna Taylor and Jordana Hardy were the only two Gwinn players to score in the first half, and the Modeltowners trailed 16-5 after the first quarter.
End of 1st: Ishpeming Hematites 16, Gwinn Modeltowners 5
Ishpeming’s transition offense was dynamite in the first, but now it settled in the half-court also. Jenna Maki and Rylee Harris were leading the Hematites’ offense, and Gwinn was having a hard time stopping them. The Modeltowners’ offense wasn’t much help to their defense, mustering only 10 first half points.
Halftime: Ishpeming Hematites 27, Gwinn Modeltowners 10
2nd Half:
Maki started to heat up for Ishpeming again in the third quarter, as she scored the third quarter’s first six points for either side. Taylor was giving it her all in the post, but she was being swarmed by the pesky Ishpeming defense. Gwinn only scored five points in each of the first three quarters, and trailed by 31.

The girls play Calumet next!
End of 3rd: Ishpeming Hematites 46, Gwinn Modeltowners 15
The Modeltowners showed some fight in the fourth quarter, outscoring Ishpeming 13-2. Gwinn’s four senior starters remained in the game, and Taylor and Hardy were taking advantage inside the paint. With under three minutes left, Halle Beauchamp became the first Gwinn player not named Taylor or Hardy to score with a layup. Grace Anderson chimed in the scoring with a putback in the final seconds to make it a final score of 48-28. Gwinn is now 1-10 on the year, and will look to finish the regular season strong with undefeated Calumet coming to town on Friday.
Final Score: Ishpeming Hematites 48, Gwinn Modeltowners 28
NEXT GAME: The Gwinn Modeltowners Girls Basketball team’s next game will be on Friday, March 19 when they host the undefeated Calumet Copper Kings in the final game of the regular season! Travis Nelson will have all of the coverage streaming live on foxsportsmarquette.com, beginning with the Elder Agency Pregame Show around 6:55 p.m., and the game to follow at 7:15 p.m. Go Modeltowners!
