Ryan, the man that started it all Joe Kocur, and Luke!

Highland, MI- August 26th, 2017- What a beautiful day for softball it was. Ryan Ranguette and Luke Ghiardi were down state to call Joe Kocur’s annual charity softball game on Fox Sports Marquette. The day included three games of softball featuring past and current Red Wings, as well as current and past Tigers. There was even former athletes that didn’t play for a Detroit sports team. All proceeds went the the Joe Kocur Foundation for Children. The goal of the foundation is to help families who need financial or logistical help by assisting local charities and setting up family friendly events to raise funds and develop a spirit for giving.

It was a great day in the booth for the guys. They had plenty of celebrity guests as well as a couple of Ryan’s old school teachers, Steve Chisik and Joe Coraci, hang out with them for the entire day. Even Ryan’s friend (Kathleen Sawyer) and father (Rob Ranguette) came to show their support. Mickey Redmond (Detroit Red Wings color analyst on Fox Sports Detroit), Darren McCarty (Former Red Wing), Dylan Larkin (Detroit Red Wing), and Dino Ciccarelli (Former Detroit Red Wing), joined Ryan and Luke to talk about the day and the great things about the Joe Kocur Foundation for Children.

As for the softball game, there were two teams, Team Probert and Team Kocur. The rosters were full of local celebrities, whether it be athletes and news casters. You can see a picture of the rosters in the gallery below. The game looked like a blow out early for Team Probert when they took a quick 7-0 lead. Team Kocur was able to claw their way back in the middle of the game with a four run rally and making the game 7-4. Both teams would add another run in the fifth inning before Team Probert would pull away with a 10-5 victory.

All in all it was a lot of fun for Ryan, Luke, and everyone involved. Thousands of people showed up to enjoy a great day with some childhood heroes and help such a great cause. If you would like to donate or get any more info on the Joe Kocur Foundation for Children, please visit their website.
