MSHS Athletes Amber Huebner and Chelsea Wiggins sign Letters of Intent for OU and NMU

Marquette, MI  –  November 15, 2016  –  Today we joined MSHS Athletes Amber Huebner and Chelsea Wiggins at the school to view their signing National Letters of Intent. Both students will be playing college sports at Michigan Universities. Amber is staying local with a commitment to Northern Michigan University to play basketball for the college. Chelsea will be going a little farther away from home landing a position on the Division 1 rated Oakland University softball team.

When Amber went through her interview with local media, she stated that she was excited to start with Northern. When asked about NMU’s basketball coach often using freshman players early in the season, Amber responding saying, “I know that he recruited about eight freshmen last year and I know we’re a really young team and he does rely a lot of them and I’m not really worried because I know this year I will have the opportunity to get better in the high school program and hopefully improve next year too.” Amber also mentioned with excitement that she is looking forward to joining NMU’s team to be reunited with a former team mate that Amber had played with for six years in the past.
During Chelsea’s interview she was questioned about moving away from her family and friends to play for Oakland University. Chelsea replied to the question stating that “It’s only a seven hour drive and I knows the drive by heart.” Having made the trip many times in the past, she has no concern about being away from home and is always open to coming up for the weekends when possible. Wiggins accepted the offer  made by Oakland University, but it was only this summer that she realized what she is up against in playing for a D1 school. Chelsea said she got to play against other girls playing at the division one level over the summer and she grew realizing she has a chance to represent Marquette down in Rochester Hills, Michigan with OU.
Both of these young ladies will be joining us on JR and Friends tomorrow evening at 6:15. Make sure to tune in to 105.5 or 99.9 to catch Ryan Ranguette and John Thomsen chat with Amber and Chelsea.
