Marquette Redmen Hockey Team Fall to Warren De La Salle Pilots 3-0
- Updated: December 8, 2017

Marquette, MI- December 8th, 2017- The Marquette Redmen hockey team fall to the Warren De La Salle Pilots 3-0 on 97.5 GTO. The Redmen were off to a great start to their 2017-2018 campaign with a 3-1 record. Their only loss came at the hands of Utica Eisenhower (7-5) when they gave up most those goals in the second period. This year they had one bad period as a team, otherwise they have played great hockey. The Pilots were ranked 4th in division 3 before the season but because of a tough schedule they are coming in at 2-3. Marquette knows this team is much better than their record says and they know they have to be flawless for three periods to get a victory.
The first period seemed like a chess match for the most part. The two teams were really feeling each other out as they traded scoring chances. It was a little sloppy for Marquette, the Redmen took three penalties and the Pilots drew first blood converting on the third one. Marquette was able to get themselves a powerplay but would quickly make it a 4 on 4 committing a penalty shortly after. Warren De La Salle would notch another goal on a perfectly executed 3 on 2 transition. The biggest difference in the period, penalties, Marquette took far too many and the Pilots led at the first intermission 2-0.
Marquette came out really clicking to start the second period. Coach Doug Garrow must have made some great adjustments in the intermission because his team took it to the Pilots in the second period. They controlled the puck for most of the second. The Redmen lit up the stat sheet in the period except for one and that was face offs. That was the only stat that seemed to go Warren’s way. Coach Garrow had to be pleased with the way his team responded in the second. The only thing that the entire team was unhappy with was the fact they could not reward themselves in the period and find the back of the net. Warren De La Salle still led 2-0 after two periods.
The Redmen took at a bad penalty at the end of the second and it would be costly. The Pilots converted on that powerplay in the first minute of the first period extending their lead. The third period mirrored the first period for Marquette. They took too many penalties and it really costed them. Warren De La Salle mounted a 3-0 lead and because of all the penalties the Redmen didn’t have the legs to mount a comeback. The spent too much time in the game giving the Pilots a man advantage. That was the biggest difference in this game, Warren converted on two powerplays and Marquette couldn’t find any on theirs. The Pilots defeated the Redmen 3-0.
Tune in tomorrow, December 9th, as the Marquette Redmen square off against the Warren De La Salle Pilots again on 97.5 GTO. Puck drop is at 1 PM and pregame will begin at 12:30.
