They had a tough fought loss against another Traverse City team last week on the road (Traverse City St. Francis). Now they got to come home in from of their home crowd and in the debut of their new stadium against another really tough Traverse City Team. It was a perfect night for football as there was a little nip in the air. The crowd was lively and the band was loud. You couldn’t ask for a better atmosphere for the home opener.

The final score of this game may seem like this game was way out of hand but this game truly was a lot closer than the score would indicate. This game really game down to about four or five momentum plays and all but one when to the Traverse City Central Trojans. Late in the second quarter the Redmen had a very promising drive going when they were trailing 21-7 before having the ball intercepted in the end zone and ran all the way back for a Trojan touchdown making it a 28-7 game heading into the half. That was a really touch play for the Redmen to swallow. But luckily for them it was half time so they had a break where they could regroup and make some adjustments.

The second half could not have started any better for Marquette. Jacob Johnson was able to pick up a fumble and return it for a touchdown. That gave the Redmen hope as they cut into the Trojans lead and making the game 28-14 early in the third quarter. But that would be all Marquette could put on the scoreboard for the night. While Traverse City Central would add fourteen more points and making the game out of reach for a comeback.

Once again the Redmen suffered a tough loss against a really tough opponent. The loss wasn’t due to a lack of effort. Marquette really fought hard the entire game. It truly was a few swing plays that took this game out of hand. Marquette looks to rebound next week against at Sault Ste. Marie. You can check out the entire Marquette schedule. The game will be broadcasted live on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 and 99.9, and 103 WFXD.
