We saw some great pitching for both Marquette and Negaunee in the first inning. The Miners were in a little bit of trouble after walking a couple batters but were able to pitch out of the jam. The Redmen put down the first three batters for Negaunee one, two, three. The second inning would be much of the same. Marquette would get the first hit of the game but wouldn’t be able to drive in the run. Negaunee would once again go down in order. After threatening in the first two innings, the Redmen were able to plate the first run of the game in the third inning. They simply used some nice small ball to get the much needed run. The Miners were able to get their first base runner of the game after drawing a walk. They were not able to bring the run home after a beautiful throw from the outfield caused a double play at first base.

For the first time in this game Negaunee was able to get the Redmen out in order very quickly in the top of the fourth inning. The Miners were able to get another base runner in the fourth after being hit by the pitch but were unable to drive him in. The pitchers duel continued through the fifth inning as both teams would get a man on base but couldn’t plate a run because of the well executed pitching and phenomenal defense. Marquette was able to get themselves two insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning. They manufactured the runs with two hits, an error, and some sacrifices. Luckily for the Redmen that they got those runs because Negaunee was not only able to break up the no-hitter but plated their only run as Marquette gets the win against the Miners 3-1.
