Marquette, MIDecember 5, 2017 – The Marquette Redettes won their home opener 56-36 over the Gladstone Braves in Marquette on Monday heard on 97.5 GTO.  The Redettes came into the game with a record of 2-0, and looked to remain unbeaten against Gladstone.

The first quarter was all Marquette, as the Redettes jumped out to an 11-2 lead in the opening four minutes of the game.  The Gladstone Braves did not record a field goal until the final two minutes of the first quarter as the Redettes’ defense proved strong, but when the Braves finally found the net, they were able to find it consistently.  At the end of the first quarter, the score was 15-9 in favor of the Redettes.

Marquette came out firing in the second quarter, getting a couple of quick baskets and drawing a foul early.  The Redettes were able to hold on to their lead throughout the quarter, but the Gladstone Braves kept themselves in the game thanks to a number of Marquette turnovers.  At the half, the Marquette Redettes led the Gladstone Braves 27-15.

The third quarter saw the Redettes and the Braves battle back and forth without a lead change, although both teams threatened to go on a scoring run.  The Redettes’ Chloe Hale was a big factor, as her passing game allowed Marquette to keep putting up points in the face of a tough Gladstone defense.  Heading into the fourth quarter, the score was 36-25 in favor of the Marquette Redettes.

In the final quarter, Gladstone looked like they might be able to draw even with the Marquette Redettes as they went on an early scoring streak, but the difference proved to be too much to overcome.  When the final buzzer sounded, the Marquette Redettes came out on top 56-36.

The Redettes improve to 3-0 on the season, and will head to Escanaba to take on the Eskymos on Thursday, December 7th, and you can catch all the action on 97.5 GTO.
