Traverse City, MI – January 14th, 2017 – It was day two of the second Traverse City Showcase, and the Marquette Redmen were taking on the Big Rapids Cardinals. They were coming off of a big win the previous night, and they looked to keep the momentum rolling. The Cardinals were a big team, and Marquette had lots of trouble clearing the puck from their own zone. This resulted in the first goal of the game for the Cardinals, and with about 4:00 left in the first, the Redmen were down 0-1. Marquette would have one more good scoring chance before the period ended, but they were unable to get on the scoreboard.

The Marquette Redmen got onto the scoreboard when Hunter D. picked up his third goal of the year at just under three minutes into the second. Just minutes later, Hunter scored again, putting Marquette into the lead. The Cardinals gave Marquette several scares as the period wore on, but the Redmen’s defense was too strong. In an amazing piece of shooting, Hunter D. scored his third goal (natural hat trick) of the period, increasing their lead to two goals. It was a wild end to the period, and at the 16:59, one second before the buzzer sounded, the Redmen scored their fourth goal of the game.

It was a back and forth game for the Marquette Redmen, but they took control of the game in the second and held a three point lead going into the final period. Unlike the second period, the start of the third was scoreless, with both teams only having 2-3 shots on goal. With eight minutes left in the game, the Redmen were maintaining their lead, but the Cardinals were making a desperate attempt at a comeback. With just minutes remaining in the game, the Redmen added a fifth goal to their score, and they would go into the locker rooms with another win.
