Wolverines Win Big Ten, Lions Add Depth and Northern Michigan Makes Change

Ryan Ranguette and John Thomsen

Marquette, MI – The Michigan Wolverines basketball team went through so much last week all beginning with the stopping of their plane as it was up in smoke. The Wolverines went into the Big Ten Tourney as underdogs and came out Big Ten Champions with a 71-56 victory over the Wisconsin Badgers on Sunday afternoon. Michigan became the first 8th seed to win the tourney and their first since 1998. Derrick Walton Jr. led the way for the Wolverines with 22 points followed by D.J. Wilson who added 17. The Wolverines now move on to the March Tournament opening up against Oklahoma State in the first round.

The Detroit Lions keep adding to their roster and over the weekend they added two key pieces in tight end from the Arizona Cardinals Darren Fells. Fells was the third best blocking tight end in the league last year. The Lions also signed former Green Bay Packer Offensive Lineman T.J. Lang to a three year contract. Lang is a Detroit Native and for Eastern Michigan University standout, Lang was also selected to the NFL Pro Bowl.

Northern Michigan University decided to make a change on Friday, releasing former head hockey coach Walt Kyle of his duties. Kyle, had an overall record of 265-263-68 during his 15 seasons with the Wildcats. Kyle also led them to six season with twenty wins or more and coached two Hobey Baker Finalists and five All-Americans.
