Wimbledon’s New Champions!

NEW SPORTS DRIVE GRAPHIC

Marquette, MI – July 14, 2025 – This year, 128 gentlemen and ladies qualified for Wimbledon. Throughout the first few days, records were broken with the hottest opening at 90 degrees Fahrenheit, making it necessary for the athletes to bring their best to win.

The eventual singles champs would show their dominance in the rounds of 64 and 32. Jannik Sinner would cruise through Aleksander Vukic (6-1,6-1,6-3) and Pedro Martinez (6-1,6-3,6-1). Iga Swiatek would struggle to start, dropping her only set of the tournament against Caty McNally. After that, she would win easily (5-7,6-2,6-1). Swiatek had a better start in her next match against Danielle Collins (6-2,6-3).

In the round of 16, both would meet their first-ranked opponent. Swiatek would have no problem against Clara Tauson (6-4,6-1). Sinner, after an early slip landing on his elbow, would drop the first two sets. Everything was going right for Grigor Dimitrov until it was 2-2 in the third set. Dimitrov served a ball and was in distress with his shoulder, to the point of not being able to finish. Sinner would move on (3-6,5-7,2-2).

Many worried about Sinner’s elbow for the quarterfinals, as he canceled his outdoor practice with the media and decided to practice inside behind closed doors. In Sinner’s way, Ben Shelton, who has arguably the hardest serve on tour. Sinner would have no problems with Shelton’s serve and got the job done in straight sets (7-6,6-4,6-4). Swiatek would continue her command, as well, having no issues with Liudmila Samsonova (6-2, 7-5).

Down to the final four, and Swiatek would dominate, dropping only two games to Belinda Bencic, moving herself one win away from the prize. Sinner would meet Novak Djokovic, who has 24 major wins. Sinner made quick work of Djokovic (6-3,6-3,6-4), and moved into a chance at revenge on Carlos Alcaraz from the French Open.

With the championship on the line, the pair would have to take down their toughest opponent yet. Swiatek would have to take down American, Amanda Anismova, who in the previous round knocked out world #1 Aryna Sabalenka.

Swiatek would play her best match of the tournament, winning (6-0, 6-0), the first time since 1911 someone has not allowed their opponent to win a game in the final. Sinner would get his revenge from the French Open and take down Alcaraz (4-6, 6-4,6-4,6-4). Sinner becomes the first Italian man, and Swiatek the first Polish woman, to win Wimbledon
