Marquette, MI – The Detroit Tigers offense came through to a crucial 9-6 victory over the Minnesota Twins Wednesday night. Tigers pitcher Anibal Sanchez struggled after retiring the first nine batters. With the Tigers down 5-2 the offense came to life from big home runs from Miguel Cabrera and an extra base hit from Ian Kinsler. The Tigers battled back and that led the way for Francisco Rodriguez to close out the ninth for his 42nd save of the season. The Tigers face off in the final game of the series today at 1:10pm when Mike Pelfrey takes the mound facing Twins Hector Santiago.
NFL week number two will be underway tonight beginning at 8:25pm when the New York Jets travel to Buffalo to take on the 0-1 Bills. The Bills have won five straight games against the Jets including a week 17 victory last year that knocked them out of the playoffs. Both teams coming in having lost to their respective opening week opponents.
The Marquette Redmen Football Team (1-2) will be in the Superior Dome on Friday night for the Homecoming game against the Eskymos of Escanaba High School. The Eskymos are off to a great start going undefeated in their first three games against solid opponents. The Redmen are coming off their first win of the season in last Fridays game against Sault Ste. Marie. The game will be on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1 and 99.9 as well as 103FXD for the “Big Game of the Week”. The pregame show will begin at 6:15pm with John Thomsen, Pete Kolbus and Ryan Ranguette and gametime is at 7pm.
