Marquette, MI – March 23rd, 2026 – The Ishpeming Hematites finished the 2024–25 season with an 18–6 record before falling 51–43 in a district final. This year, they returned to Division 4, the same division they won a state title in 2024, determined to make another run. Led by Mya Hemmer, a Baylor volleyball commit, and Jenessa Eagle, a four-year starter and Michigan Tech commit. Both played during the 2024 state title run and set their sights on getting back to the Breslin Center.
Their season began with a trip to Westwood to take on their rival. They earned a 59–42 victory and followed that with five straight wins before facing Negaunee in another highly anticipated rivalry matchup. Ishpeming suffered its first defeat of the season, losing 54–44 to a strong Miners team. The Hematites, however, bounced back by cruising through their next five games. Their second loss came in a 53–49 overtime battle against Gladstone, led by Lily Johnson, a Green Bay commit. Ishpeming had previously defeated Gladstone 54–44 earlier in the season.
Following that loss, the Hematites hosted Negaunee with a chance for revenge. Eagle put on a show, leading Ishpeming to a 51–39 win and handing the Miners their first loss of the season. The Hematites finished the regular season by winning five of their final six games, with their last loss coming from Houghton, 62–57.
