Marquette, MI – The most passionate hockey community in the United States has been awarded by Kraft Hockeyville USA to Marquette’s Lakeview Arena. Marquette was just one of thousands communities that submitted stories emphasizing their passion and love for hockey. The partnership between the National Hockey League (NHL), NHLPA and Kraft Hockey-ville USA, professional hockey is coming to Marquette in October.
Doug Garrol joined us to talk about winning the contest and what it will do to uplift the community when it comes to hockey. The Lakeview arena is set to receive $150,000 in upgrades to bring the rink to NHL regulation standards. The NHL will play on October 4th in a pre-season game between the Buffalo Sabres and Carolina Hurricanes. There will be a series of fun events around Marquette leading up to the game. The game will be televised on NBCSN as well as
having the NHL commissioner in attendance. Doug also talked about the new glass the arena is set to receive from the Pepsi Center in Colorado and minor upgrades that will make the arena a professional atmosphere.
