The Redettes Coming Home With A Win Against The Kingsford Flivvers 56-43

Kingsford, MI – February 12, 2021 – The Marquette Redettes traveled down the road to Kingsford Friday night for a Great Northern Conference match-up. Marquette Redettes have beaten Kingsford the last 8 straight games, and the Flivvers were looking to change that trend.

First Half:

Fast paced first quarter with Talia Wallis of Kingsford scoring the first points of the contest. Marquette would then take the lead and go on a 11-0 run with the help of a pair of 3-point shots by Rayna Warchock. The Redettes leading the Flivvers 11-2. Talia Wallis was able to bridge the gap a bit bringing the score to 11-7 following shots at the free throw line and a 3-point shot of her own. Jenna Olkkonen had great back to back plays with laying up a shot of her own following it with stealing the Marquette inbound and putting it in for 2 more for Kingsford. The Redettes were back on the hunt with Maria Millado dishing the ball to Brooklyn Michelin for a long two point bucket bringing the score to 15-11. Millado would follow it up with a steal going the distance adding two more for the Redettes.

Talia Wallis continues the trend of striking first by putting up two for Kingsford opening the 2nd quarter. Flivver Erica Malone would drain a shot from behind the arc bringing the score to 22-16 in favor of Marquette but Kingsford moving closer. Both of these teams were playing strong and physical defense. Marquette would get the ball back and Holder would hit a short range shot building the lead, 22-16. Jenna Olkkonen would keep up with her aggressive play bringing the game within 1 for the Flivvers. The Redettes wouldn’t let the Flivvers get ahead as Averie Kelly would go up and in off of multiple offensive rebounds building back up the Marquette lead. Talia Wallis of Marquette would put an end to the first half with a 3-point shot and Marquette goes into the locker room up by 2.

Second Half:

Maria Millado would change things up scoring first for the Redettes. She would follow up her initial basket with a lefty layup plus a foul, picking up 3 the hard way. Rayna Warchock put together a clinic with great defense and blocking ability. However the physical play would prove costly sending Christina Glodowski to the line after a put-back bucket closing the Marquette lead to 4. She would follow it up with another 2 point bucket and tying up the game 33-33. Averie Kelly was able to string together a couple of nice shots and take back the lead for the Redettes. The third quarter would round out with a score of 42-37 in favor of Marquette.

Marquette would again strike first in the fourth quarter, and continue to add on with a Millado score 45-37. Kingsford had some trouble getting shots to drop which would prove to be costly. The Redettes would take the largest lead of the game with dominating defense, 46-39. That theme would continue as Marquette never gave the lead back to the Flivvers.
