Redettes Upset Number 1 Ranked Sault Ste Marie In Overtime, 56-49

Marquette, MI – March 15th, 2021 – The Marquette Redettes played host to the Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils on Monday night. The Redettes looking to build momentum into the district tournament while the Blue Devils were looking to remain perfect. The game was broadcast live on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9!

Warm Ups
First Half: The Redettes knew they had to come out strong against the number one team in the Upper Peninsula. Marquette’s Rayna Warchock landed a three to put the Redettes up to start the game. Zoe Smith would show off her shooting by hitting her own 3-pointer to bring the score to, 6-2 in favor of the Redettes. Haliegh Knowles of the Blue Devils would hit her own three to end the quarter and bring Sault Ste Marie within one point of the Redettes.
The Blue Devils would turn it on in the second quarter against the Redettes. Emily McLean outworked everyone on the glass plus the stout Blue Devil defense would cause havoc for the Redettes. Sault Ste. Marie went on an 11-0 run and took their first lead of the game to end the half.

Halftime: Sault. Ste. Marie 25, Marquette 19
Second Half: The third quarter started off at a fast and exciting pace. Lilly Alaspa for the Blue Devils would start things off with a quick jumper landing to build their lead. Marquette’s Kaleah Puskala would respond with a 2-pointer of her own to widdle down Sault Ste. Marie’s lead.
Redette Maria Millado would have a great third quarter started off by splitting the lane and ending with a lay-up. Rayna Warchock would follow that up with a 3-pointer to bring the Redettes within three. The Blue Devils would go back and forth to maintain their lead. Maria Millado would finish the quarter with 10 points and the Redettes still within three.
The fourth quarter would be completely back and forth. Both teams played incredible defense, and scored few points. The Blue Devils were up by two but were in the double bonus. Marquette took advantage of that and made their free throws that tied the game up, 45-45 and sent the game into overtime.

Redette In-Bound
Overtime:The extra play was completely controlled by the Redettes. Kicked off by Rayna Warchock landing a trademark 3-pointer to bring the Redettes the lead. The Redettes were able to play very diciplined defense, while the Blue Devils sent Marquette to the line enough times to build a substantial lead. The Redette win ends Sault Ste. Marie’s 28-game win streak dating back to 12/20/2019.
