Redettes Basketball Victorious with a 57-42 Win Over Escanaba
- Updated: February 26, 2019

Marquette, MI – February 26, 2019 – The Marquette Redettes Varsity Basketball team won 57-42 over Escanaba in their final regular season game on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9.
Marquette took home not only the victory, but also a perfect Great Northern Conference record. They went 8-0 in conference play for the 2018-19 season. Escanaba certainly made things difficult though, coming dangerously close to a major comeback a few times in the second half of the game.
To start things off, an early foul from Escanaba gave Marquette a chance at the line to take an early 1-0 lead. The Eskymos were the first to strike away from the line to take a 2-1 lead as Marquette struggled to connect offensively.
Sydney Kivi broke that spell with an and-one opportunity to improve the Redettes to 4-2. Aspen Michelin quickly followed up with her own three-point play for a score of 7-2.
A Madison Carter lay-up completed an 8-0 run as the Redettes’ offensive woes evaporated.
Escanaba was able to close the gap slightly before the buzzer, the Redettes leading by three with a score of 9-6 going into the second quarter.
Avery Ledy opened the second quarter by sinking a couple of triples to quickly widen the Redettes’ lead to 15-6.
Madison Carter went on a huge scoring run with three buckets in a row to help create a 16-point lead for Marquette. But wait, there’s more. Carter, with a huge evening overall, fired off a triple for her fourth straight basket. It’s safe to say the Redettes’ offensive game was heating up.
As always, the Redettes’ defense also showed up to keep the Eskymos at just 13 points in the first half. Marquette led Escanaba 34-13 going into the second half of play.
Aspen Michelin got the early lay-up to start off the first half, but it was Escanaba who went on the scoring run in the third quarter.
Madison Carter broke the Eskymos’ streak with an and-one opportunity to make it 40-22.
Marquette stayed out front, but the Eskymos put a dent in their deficit. They outscored the Redettes 19-13 in the third to improve to 47-32 behind the Redettes going into the fourth quarter.
Escanaba was able to cut their deficit to just ten early in the fourth as they worked off of the momentum created in the third quarter.
A 5-0 run from Marquette coupled with some excellent defense erased a good portion of Escanaba’s work and extended the Redettes’ lead back out to 15 points.
The Eskymos did not make it easy, but the Redettes’ pulled off their 57-42 victory in routine fashion.
The Redettes will be back in action Monday, March 4th against Alpena on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9. Tune in for the pregame show at 5:30 pm, tip off is at 6:00 pm.
