Redettes Basketball Breezes to 63-31 Victory Over Gladstone Braves
- Updated: January 15, 2019

Marquette, MI – January 15, 2019 – The Marquette Redettes Varsity Basketball team defeated the Gladstone Braves to improve to 4-0 in the Great Northern Conference on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9.
Between an on-fire Aspen Michelin, a solid offensive effort across the board, and a fortress-like defense, the Redettes continue to dominate their 2018-2019 season.
Marquette led the first quarter, but the start of the game was not without its obstacles for both teams. Avery Ledy took to the bench after finding herself in a bit of foul trouble early.
Fortunately for the Redettes, Gladstone struggled at the free throw line.
An Aspen Michelin two-pointer set up a 15-7 lead for the Redettes headed into the second quarter.
Michelin had a huge night and alone scored more points (16) than the entire Gladstone team (14) in the first half. She came out early with a three-point play to improve Marquette to 18-7 right out of the gate in the second period.
The Redettes’ defense, as always, played a huge part in Marquette’s success. Gladstone could not seem to get an offensive foothold. The first half ended with Marquette in the lead at 31-14 over the Braves.
Marquette continued to take the Braves to task in the second half.
Avery Ledy arrived back on court only to fire off two three-pointers right away in the third period.
The Redettes stayed on top at 52-24 at the end of the third, and it was more of the same in the fourth.
Marquette improves to 8-2 overall after tonight’s 63-31 win.
Michelin had 23 points overall. Avery Ledy caught up in the second half with 13 points. Sydney Kivi scored 11 points. Madison Carter and Sofia van den Ende had 5 points each. And Reegan Ketzenberger, Kayley Elmblad, and Kaeleigh Talbacka each scored 2 points to round out an unstoppable Redettes team tonight.
The Redettes will get back on court on Friday, January 18th at Sault Ste Marie on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9. Tune in for the pregame show at 6:45 pm; tip off is at 7:15 pm.
