Redette Softball Loses Game One Of Doubleheader Against Negaunee, 11-1

Marquette, MI – May 6, 2021 – The Marquette Redette softball team played the visiting Negaunee Miners in a doubleheader on Thursday afternoon. The game one was broadcast live on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9!
Alaina Saari started in the circle for the Redettes as she faced lead-off hitter Ally Ennett who would hit a single for the Miners. Negaunee’s starting pitcher Josie Thomson would hit second and also single to put a runner in scoring position. Katelyn Lammi would hit Ennett home with a RBI double giving Negaunee the 1-0 lead. Morgan Carlson would be up to bat next for the Miners and would ground out, but an error would lead to Thomson crossing home for Negaunee. Lilly Nelson would lay down a sacrifice bunt to bring Lammi home to give the Miners a 3-0 lead. Larissa Anderson would fly out to end the first half of the inning.

Marquette At-Bat
Thomson would make quick work of the Marquette batters as she would retire the side including two strikeouts.
Negaunee would keep up the offense as Morgan Ulvila hit a single and be hit home by Sierra Hendrickson with a RBI double. The Miner’s lead grew to 4-0. Hendrickson would steal third base and be hit home by Ennett off a single. Durring the Thomson at-bat Saari would throw a wild pitch that would advance Ennett all the way to third base. Thomson would hit a single, and Negaunee had runners on the corners. Lammi would hit a sacrifice fly to bring Ennett home, before the Miners would fly out to end the top of the second.
Marquette would get on base as Lauren Houle was walked to first, and advanced to second by an Alaina Saari single. Marleigh Sherbinow would strike out to end the second inning.

Miner At-Bat
Negaunee’s Nelson would lead off with a single and then steal second during the Anderson at-bat. Anderson would get herself a RBI single and build the Miner lead, 7-0. Ulvila would get on first off an error that also brought Anderson home for Neguanee. Hendrickson would hit a double to advance Ulvila to third. Ennett would bring Ulvila home off of a sacrifice fly. Thomson would help her own cause by hitting a RBI double and bring the Negaunee lead to, 10-0 to end the top of the third.
Marquette wouldn’t get any offense going as Thomson would once again retire the side with two strikeouts. However to start the fourth Negaunee would also go down in order.
Redettte Zoie Retaskie would hit a lead off single to start the bottom half of the fourth. However Thomson would strike out the next three batters to close out the inning.
Marquette would retire the side to start the fifth inning down by 10 runs which would implement the mercy rule after five innings. With the bottom half of the inning underway Marquette would need to plate a run to keep the game alive. Saari would try to help herself by hitting a single to lead things off. She would be hit home by a Rayna Warchock double. Marquette would close the fifth down 10-1.

Redettes v Miners
Negaunee would fight back with singles by Ennett and Thomson. Ennett would he hit home by Carlson to bring the score back to 11-1 to close the top half of the inning. Negaunee’s Thomson would end the game by striking out the side and implement the mercy rule.
