The Marquette Redmen were still in the game at the start of the second period, but just under two minutes in, the Copper Kings scored on a deflected puck that made it though heavy traffic in front of the net. Although the Redmen were able to stick with Calumet in the first period, the second period was a different story. Calumet scored their fourth goal of the game midway through the period, but Marquette was able to force multiple penalties from the Copper Kings, giving them some hope. The game was nearing the final period when Marquette forced two penalties from Calumet, giving them a 5-on-3 for just over a minute, but the Redmen were unable to score. Before the end of the second period, Calumet would add to their total, increasing their lead over Marquette.

It was going to be a tough final period for the Marquette Redmen if they had any hope of making a comeback. Things looked bleak, but there was still time on the clock. The Redmen did everything they could to fight back, but a freak accident ended the game early. On a hit that rattled the boards, a pane of glass fell out of the boards right behind the Calumet goal. After a minor delay, it was determined that there was no replacement, so the game was called with just over eight minutes remaining.
