The Marquette Hockey team takes down Mona Shores 3-1 in a scrappy battle on WFXDH2

Marquette, MI – December 10th, 2021 – Marquette Redmen hockey defeated the visiting Mona Shores Sailors 3-1 in a scrappy battle on Friday night. Joe Gaffney and John Thompsen had the call from Marquette on WFXDH2.
It was a quick start for the Redmen as they got their first shot off within a minute of the game starting. The first goal of the game came from Mona Shores and they took the 1-0 lead over Marquette. Drew Dellies got a one timer off the puck went just wide of the net. Colin Nemacheck got a shot on net but it went just over the crossbar. Caleb Fries got a pass from Brett Ranta and scored the goal to tie the game 1-1. Late in the first period the Redmen amped up their defense on the Sailors and were all over them. Rylan Ragusett had a good shot on the net but it was saved, costing the Redmen a chance to take the lead.

The second period started just as hot as the first period as Kody Moyer got a quick shot off the net right out of the gate but missed, Jake Garrow got another shot off but that missed the mark as well. The first and only goal of the second period came from Kody Moyer of Marquette and gave the Redmen the 2-1 lead. Marquette had a two on three for a potential goal but the pass to Riipi couldn’t connect. Wylan Cambensy got one of his best saves of the year preventing the Sailors from scoring. Cambensy continued his impressive second period with yet another impressive but this time with his leg pad.
End of 2nd: Marquette 2, Mona Shores 1
Fries got the puck down low to start the third period but it hit the base of the net. Wylan Cambensy got yet another big save and this time with his glove. Jake Garrow couldn’t get the rebound and then shortly after the play he got leveled by a Sailor. It was a physical period as Nash Riipi got buried by a Sailor which resulted in a five minute major. Garrow got another shot off but hit the side of the net. The Marquette fans were getting really into the game, helping the Redmen gain momentum. Tucker Welch scored with seconds to go in the period and securing the win for the Marquette hockey squad.
