
The Marquette Redmen got the game off to a rough start with an early penalty called on them, but they were able to successfully kill that penalty. Marquette was getting some great shots onto the Negaunee Miners’ goal, but their goalie was doing an incredible job guarding the net. Sean O’Connor hit the back of the net for the first time in the game for either team at the 11 minute mark of the first thanks to a great feed from Cammarata. They skated hard for the rest of the period to guard their lead, and they would go into the second with the narrowest of leads.

Just seconds into the second period, the Marquette Redmen had a great scoring opportunity but were unable to capitalize on the chance. Sean O’Connor once again found the back of the net off of another feed from Cammarata, making the score 2-0 for the Redmen. Ryan Baldwin scored a goal for Marquette with two minutes left in the second off a smooth give-and-go from down in the corner. Guidebeck scored the Redmen’s fourth goal of the game with under one minute to play, and it seemed that the Negaunee Miners had nearly given up.

Early in the third period, the Negaunee Miners were called for a major penalty for roughing on a nasty hit to Sean O’Connor. Amazingly, Sean appeared unhurt, but it may have been due to adrenaline. Hogan Nemetz scored the Marquette Redmen’s fifth goal of the game after winning a face-off on a power play. Frost got himself on Marquette’s scorecard midway through the third period when he netted the Redmen’s sixth goal of the game. The goals kept coming for the Marquette Redmen when Gaetanno Cammarata flipped in a loose rebound in front of the Negaunee net. The final goal of the game was a short-handed goal from Tanner Phillips to initiate the mercy rule and end the game early.
