Redmen Hockey Pick Up The Win Against Escanaba Eskymos 5-2

Escanaba, MI – February 13,2021 – The Redmen hockey team was on the road Saturday afternoon to face-off against the Eskymos of Escanaba.

First Period: Both teams were off to a semi-slow start going back and forth on both ends of the ice. Marquette would take advantage of their first power play opportunity by putting one in net by Jake Garrow making it 1-0 for the Redmen.  Brennan Hakkola had a great showing in net for the Redmen. Escanaba would against send another man to the penalty box. The Redmen took advantage of another power play with a goal from the forward Ansel Frost. The shot was assisted by forward Jackson Putolney and forward Jake Garrow.

First Intermission 2-0 Marquette

Second Period: Escanaba wasted no time getting in the score column :06 into play to start the second. Nick Kolich able to get a tip-in score assisted by Braden Sundquist brought the score within one for the Eskymos. Marquette was looking to answer back with some aggressive offense, however the defense was a little weak during the shift and allowed another Escanaba score. Sawyer LaMarch was able to bury the puck with the assist from Clayton Smith at 1:33. Two back to back goals for Escanaba took the wind somewhat out of the sails of the Redmen.

Marquette forward Ethan Phillips was able to retain the lead for the Redmen with a goal assisted by Jackson Potulny.  Jack Sides of the Redmen was able to tack on another score with an assist from Drew Dellies and Brayden Grange at 15:00.

Second Intermission 4-2

Third Period: The third period started off not as exciting as the last, but with some physical play by both teams. The teams traveled back and forth with various shot attempts. It wasn’t until 6:08 into the period that Dellies for the Redmen was able to sneak one past the Eskymo goaltender with the serve from Potulny and Grange. That score gave Marquette the comfortable lead they were looking for and eventually finished with.
