Marquette, MI – March 9th, 2021 – The Marquette Redmen hosted the Negaunee Miners Tuesday night at Lakeview Arena for a hockey match-up. The game was broadcasted live on 97.5 GTO. It was a short game the last time the two teams met as the Redmen won 8-0 implementing the “mercy rule.”

First Period: Marquette came out playing with a purpose as it was Senior Night for the Redmen. It was only fitting that the senior captain, Ansell Frost would score the first goal of the game and have +3 points in the first period.
Marquette would send a man to the penalty box, but it wouldn’t matter as DeMattia scored the short-handed goal with the assist from Jake Garrow. That goal gave the Redmen an early 2-0 lead against the Miners.
The Redmen would continue to cushion their lead when Ethan Phillips scored yet another goal with Jackson Putolny. The Redmen went into the first intermission ahead, 3-0.
S.O.G.: Marquette 16, Negaunee 2
Second Period: Redman Ansell Frost would yet against set the tone for the period by scoring at 2:52 with the assist from Brayden Grange. DeMattia would have a good look at the net but wouldn’t get it to go. Jackson Potulny would pick up the rebound and bury it home putting the Redmen up, 5-0.

Another Marquette senior would get his recognition, and first goal of the year, Joseph Luke would tack on another goal to his team’s already commanding lead.
S.O.G.: Marquette 18 (34), Negaunee 6 (8)
Third Period: The Miners would start the final period with a power play. However it would be the Redmen who would strike. Jake Garrow would score the short-handed goal and Evan Kroll had the assist.
Dylan Baldwin would score the eighth and final goal for the Redmen to leave the ice with the mercy rule win.
S.O.G.: Marquette 6 (40), Negaunee 4 (12)
Final: Marquette 8, Negaunee 0
