Redmen Hockey Mercies Sault Blue Devils 9-1

Marquette, MIDecember 29, 2019 – The Marquette Redmen Varsity Hockey team put an early end to their game with a 9-1 victory over the Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils today on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9 and 103 WFXD in the big game of the week.

Marquette struck first as Gaetano Cammarata’s goal, assisted by Ansel Frost, put the Redmen out front at 1-0 over the Blue Devils. Just a minute later, Ryan Baldwin found Dylan Baldwin who then passed it off to Evan Kroll who buried the puck for a 2-0 lead.

The third and fourth Redmen goals came shortly thereafter, making for four goals in eight shots in the opening minutes of the game.

The Redmen are 9-2 on the season after this victory!

Blue Devil Gleb Baumann would not let the period end without getting the Sault on the board, however. Baumann found the back of the net for an even strength goal in the final minute of play to bring the score to 4-1 before the buzzer.

Cammarata got things started for the Redmen at 3:06 in the second period. He found the back of the net to improve Marquette to 5-1. Jack Sides found Hogan Nemetz just a few minutes later. The Nemetz goal put Marquette at 6-1, the Redmen charging full steam ahead to an early victory.

Another Nemetz goal, with assistance from Ethan Phillips, followed in short order to make it 7-1. Yet another Redmen goal put the score at 8-1 . A mercy end to the game comes after the second period, so the onslaught of Marquette scoring would continue until the buzzer.

Cooper Anderson put up a goal of his own to put the score at 9-1, solidifying a mercy end to the game at the end of the period unless Sault Ste. Marie could find it in them to score. Unfortunately, the Blue Devils could not find the back of the net and the game came to a close early. This victory puts Marquette at 9-2 on the season.

The Redmen will be back against the Negaunee Miners on Tuesday, January 7th on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9. Tune in at 6:30 pm for the pregame show, puck drops at 7:00 pm.
