Redmen Hockey Falls to Hancock Bulldogs, 5-4, in Overtime Battle
- Updated: December 11, 2018
Hancock, MI – Tuesday, December 11th, 2018 – The Marquette Redmen traveled to Hancock Tuesday night where they fell to the Hancock Bulldogs in an overtime battle on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9.
The game began slow, with a Marquette penalty being the only excitement for the first few minutes. However, at the 10:38 mark, Hancock’s Austin Salani scored a goal with the assist from fellow teammate Todd Anderson. With around 3:21 to go in the first period, Marquette’s Ben Hyde answered with his own unassisted goal, bringing the score to a 1-1 tie going into the second period.
The second period started much like the first, with a Bulldog penalty happening at the 2:40 mark. At around the 5:40 mark, both teams received coincidental penalties, with Marquette still on the power play. With the Redmen unable to make any power play magic happen, the score remained tied until around the 11:16 mark when Marquette’s Brian Baldwin scored an unassisted goal. Towards the end of the period, Marquette received a penalty, which led to a Hancock power play goal with only 15 seconds left. The period ended with the teams tied at 2-2.
The Redmen gained the lead back right away in the third period at the 3:49 mark. Tanner Phillips and Gaetanno Cammarata rushed the Bulldogs net 2 on 1, with Phillips scoring off of a beautiful pass from Cammarata, bringing the score to 3-2 in Marquette’s favor. At the 10:09 mark, Hancock’s Colton Salani scored a goal, bringing the score to 3-3. Not long after that, Hancock’s Trevor Tchida scored a goal with an assist from Bryce Randell, putting the Bulldogs in the lead 4-3. With only five seconds left in the game, Bulldog penalties gave the Redmen a power play. With only 0.8 seconds to go, Marquette’s Andrew Fedrizzi scored one of his own with the assist coming from Jacob Peterson.
The game then went into overtime, with Hancock’s Austin Salani scoring the winning goal, which was his third of the night, at the 5:30 mark in the extra session. The Bulldogs walked away with the 5-4 win over the Redmen.
The Marquette Redmen will play their next game Friday, December 14th, 2018 at home against West Ottawa. The pre-game show will begin at 7:30 pm, with puck drop at 8 pm on Fox Sports Marquette and 103 FXD. Shout out to Marquette’s Tanner Phillips, MI Internet’s Player of the Game. Great job!
