Redmen Hockey End 2018 With 4-0 Win Over Blue Devils

The Redmen closed out the year with a victory over the Blue Devils.

Marquette, MIDecember 29, 2018 – The Marquette Redmen Hockey team closed out the year with a 4-0 victory against the Sault Ste Marie Blue Devils this afternoon on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9.

This victory marks the fifth win in a row for the Redmen, and also the half-way point of the 2018-2019 season. Marquette certainly looks strong going into the new year.

The Redmen controlled the puck early in the first period.

A slight shift in energy went the way of the Blue Devils, but a Thomas Dunleavy goal, assisted by Austin Ridl, at 11:21 gave the Redmen a 1-0 lead over Sault Ste Marie.

In spite of their lead, the Redmen had only six shots on goal in the first period.

The second was a different story.

Marquette played some dominant hockey in the second period with a whopping 17 shots on goal.

For all the quality attempts, only one goal slipped past the Blue Devil goalie. Jacob Peterson found the back of the net at 11:31, with Sean O’Connor and Ansel Frost assisting, for a 2-0 lead over the Soo.

The Redmen began the third period against a more energetic Blue Devils team.

Marquette played a solid final period, and a Sean O’Connor goal at 10:10 gave the Redmen a 3-0 lead. Thomas Dunleavy and Gaetanno Cammarata assisted.

Cammarata followed up his assist with a goal of his own as the puck glanced off of a Blue Devil defenseman and zinged into his own net to solidify the Marquette victory.

The Redmen will be at Negaunee against the Miners on Friday, January 4th on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9. Tune in at 6:30 pm for the pregame, puck drops at 7:00 pm.
