First Period: The game between the top two teams in the conference started out with fast paced play. Marquette was able to get a 5-3 man advantage against the Copper Kings early on, but weren’t able to turn it into any points. The Redmen had no shortage of shots on goal. Scoring proved to be quite difficult against a team of Calumet’s caliber.

At 12:41 Calumet would be able to bury the puck in net. Carson Karineimi was able to score an even strength one-timer with the serve from Caden Lehto of the Copper Kings.

S.O.G.: Marquette 17 , Calumet 4

Second Period: Both of the teams came out strong after the first intermission. Marquette found themselves in trouble when a Redmen skater wound up in the penalty box. Calumet was boasting an impressive 42% power play scoring percentage coming into the game and they were looking to make the Redmen pay. On the flip side the Redmen penalty kill has been just as impressive not allowing any power play goals this season.

Copper King Jackson Rilie was able to send a shot home behind Brennan Hakkola to build on their lead and tarnishing Marquette’s perfect penalty kill record. The Copper Kings went back into the locker room with an additional goal on their lead, 2-0.

S.O.G.: Marquette 5 (22) , Calumet 8 (12)

Third Period: The Redmen knew the game wasn’t over when they came out to the ice for the final period. Each team showing off physical play with hard hits being made by both. Marquette was a victim of circumstance as a questionable call sent a Redmen to the penalty box.

Calumet took advantage of the power play at 6:30 when Noah Jukuri scored for the Copper Kings bringing their lead to, 3-0. Jackson Rilie would follow that up with his second goal of the evening for Calumet.

Marquette would not go down quietly however as Dylan Kroll would send one home at 10:06 to bring the score to, 4-1. The Redmen would seemingly find their second wind as they scored yet another goal only :10 after the first when Owen Ripii would score with a dish from Frost. Dylan Baldwin would get his number called as he made quite an athletic goal falling to the ice and sneaking one by the Copper King goaltender.

Calumet would show off why they’re constantly in the talks for the best in the state as they created more distance and scoring at 15:30 and closing the game out with the Copper Kings getting the victory at home.

S.O.G.: Marquette 10 (32), Calumet 9 (21)

Final: Marquette 3, Calumet 5
