Redmen Hockey Claims 4-2 Victory Over Canton Chiefs

Marquette, MIDecember 28, 2019 – The Marquette Redmen Varsity Hockey team took home a 4-2 victory over the Canton Chiefs tonight on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9.

Canton took advantage of a slow start for Marquette and struck first early in the first period. Declan Ohare, assisted by Joel Fonovich, found the back of the neck for an even strength goal and a lead of 1-0 over the Redmen.

Marquette’s Dylan Baldwin responded  a few minutes later, with an assist from Andrew Fedrizzi, to tie it up at 1-1. The goal put a little pep in the Redmen’s step as momentum swung in their favor.

Up close and personal action!

The Redmen did not waste any of that electricity, peppering the Canton goal with quality shots. Ethan Phillips found the net late in the period to improve the Redmen to 2-1 over the Chiefs.

The Chiefs, however, were not going away. Canton responded quickly with a goal of their own to tie the score back up at 2-2 before the buzzer.

The Redmen charged into the second period, bringing lots of energy to the ice. It was a scoreless period though, as Canton goalie Jaxon Taylor protected their net against an onslaught of quality shots on goal from Marquette.

The third period was shaping up to be much like the second with Marquette skating out with a full head of steam but unable to secure a goal to pick up the lead. But Andrew Fedrizzi, with an assist from Ansel Frost, broke the scoring drought at the 9:49 mark. Fedrizzi got the puck to Frost and then Frost sailed it back to Fedrizzi who buried in the net to improve to 3-2 over the Chiefs.

Ansel Frost followed up with an insurance policy goal to put the Redmen up 4-2 late in the third period to seal the deal on a Marquette victory.

The Redmen will be back in action tomorrow, December 29th against the Sault Ste Marie Blue Devils Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9 and 103 WFXD for the big game of the week. Tune in at 1:30 pm for pregame, puck drops at 2:00 pm.
