It was no rest for the weary as the Redmen had their first game only last night, a 2-1 victory for Marquette against the Berkley Bears.

The first period began with Marquette moving the puck well. The Eagles, however, were the first to score as Jack Hammond of Utica Eisenhower found the back of the net.
The Redmen struggled to find a rhythm, but the intensity and speed of last night’s first game carried over into the second today. Several promising shots on goal gave fans a few moments of excitement, but the Eagles remained in the lead at the end of the first period.
In spite of a whopping 13 shots on goal to Eisenhower’s one, the Redmen could not find the back of the net at the beginning of the game. Marquette began the second period at five on three, but held off the Eagles in the tense first minutes.
The Redmen continued to move the puck aggressively, but could not finish at the net. The second period ended with no change to the scoreboard as the Eagles protected their 1-0 lead over Marquette.

The third period started with four quality shots on goal, but the Eagles goalie continued to protect the Eisenhower net handily.
In a frustrating final period, the Redmen found themselves again at five on three for several minutes. Finally, back at full strength, Marquette searched for a chance to tie it up before the end of the game.
And tie it up they did. Sean O’Connor assisted a Gaetanno Cammarata goal for a score of 1-1 with a little over a minute to go.
The Redmen hoped to eek out a victory when the game entered a frenetic five minutes of overtime.
Marquette goaltender Brennan Hakkola had a critical save a few seconds into OT. Cammarata weathered a punishing hit, but skated away of his own accord. The resulting penalty had Marquette in a power play with less than half of OT left to go.
Despite a valiant effort, the Redmen would have to accept a tie game against Utica Eisenhower. The final score remained 1-1.
The Marquette Redmen Varsity Hockey team will have their first home game of the season against the Houghton Gremlins on Tuesday, November 20th. Pregame starts at 6:30 pm, the puck drops at 7:00 pm on Fox Sports Marquette 105.1-99.9 and 103 FXD.
