Redmen End in a Tie Against Midland Dow

Midland, MI – December 4th, 2021 – The Marquette Redmen hit the ice for the second straight day to take on the Midland Dow Chargers.
The period started with both teams trying tirelessly to get a shot on net. Both teams came out fast, which seemed to slow down offensive play. The Redmen held the Chargers without a shot for the first 10 minutes of play. With about 6 minutes to play in the period, Marquette was given their first power play of the game, but could not get a shot on net. Both teams presented opportunities in the final minutes, but it was scoreless after 1.

National Anthem
The Redmen started the 2nd period short handed after a cross checking minor. They were able to kill the penalty and return to full strength, after only giving up 1 shot on net. After an uneventful 7 minutes, the Redmen were once again on the power play. The first 90 seconds of the man advantage was unsuccessful, but the Redmen were able to put on the shots in the remaining 30 seconds, but were still unable to get the puck in the net. Penalties continued to litter the period, as the Redmen were able to return to full strength after another penalty kill. Moments later a Charger was sent to the box, but the Redmen were again not able to score. After 2 periods of play, the game was still scoreless.

Redmen Celebration
The Redmen came out of the locker room and finally broke the tie 30 seconds into the period. Forward Jacob Garrow scored the first goal of the game, assisted from Forward Kody Moyer. Moments later, the game would be tied once again. The Chargers were finally able to get a puck behind Redmen Goalie Anna Byczek, who had been playing a fantastic game in front of the net. There would be no opportunities for either team until the last few minutes of the period. The Chargers got too physical and sent a man to the box, which gave the Redmen a man advantage for the remainder of the period. They were unable to score the game winner, and went into the locker room ready for an overtime period.
The overtime period began with a 30 second power play for the Redmen, but the Chargers returned to full strength. Anna Byczek started to heat up for the Redmen, making some incredible saves to keep her team alive. With minutes remaining in the period, the Redmen had several opportunities to end the game, but could not. The buzzer rang and the game ended in a tie. Marquette out shot Midland Dow 30-21 and Anna Byczek was given the broadcasts Player of the Game, making 29 saves in the 1-1 tie.
